ThePLATFORM Partners With SPEAKEASY To Power Successful Launch Of METALLICAVAULT.COM
July 8, 2003thePlatform for Media, Inc., a leading provider of software for rich media content management, publishing, and reporting software, announced it partnered with Speakeasy, the nation's largest independent broadband provider, to provide software content management and presentation for www.metallicavault.com, the first authorized online distribution point for the music of rock legends METALLICA.
thePlatform has a history of successfully supporting extremely high usage digital media initiatives on the Internet, which made it a good choice for Speakeasy. "As far as we know, MetallicaVault.com is the most successful launch of a band's online music site ever," says Mike Apgar, CEO of Speakeasy. "Speakeasy and METALLICA needed a partner that could handle tremendous scale, and thePlatform has delivered."
Launched June 5, MetallicaVault.com logged more than 100,000 registered users and 1 million songs downloaded in its first 10 days of operation. To access the exclusive content on MetallicaVault.com, customers receive a unique access code when they purchase the new METALLICA CD, "St. Anger". By entering this code into a secure media portal on the site, CD owners can access a wide variety of METALLICA MP3 downloads.
To deploy MetallicaVault.com on time and on budget, Speakeasy selected thePlatform media publishing system . The portal is powered by thePlatform's turnkey portal technology, which enabled the Speakeasy design team to quickly create the portal, and easily apply METALLICA's own look and feel. The CD-Key database is also managed by Speakeasy, and thePlatform's extensibility was critical in providing a seamless experience. "thePlatform's flexibility is our hallmark," said Ian Blaine, President and co-founder. "Because our portals can allow any other external system to provide the end-user authentication, there was no need for expensive integration or custom development."
"MetallicaVault.com marks the beginning of thePlatform's partnership with Speakeasy," says Blaine and Apgar agrees. "We're looking forward to providing similar services to other leading content owners in the future."
